The Source of the Nile is listed among the gazetted national cultural sites and monuments of Uganda, alongside the Independence Monument, the City Square and the Equator monuments.

It is a site of both natural and cultural significance, representing a major geographical landmark that has shaped the history and development of the region.

Under the Museums and Monuments Act, 2023, “natural heritage” includes natural features consisting of physical and biological formations of outstanding value from the aesthetic or scientific point of view, and natural sites of outstanding value from the point of view of natural beauty.
