Nkokonjeru Royal Tombs is listed among the gazetted national cultural sites and monuments of Uganda, alongside Kasubi, Wamala, and Mparo royal tombs.
Royal tombs are burial grounds of cultural or traditional institutions. Under the Museums and Monuments Act, 2023, burial grounds of cultural or traditional institutions shall remain the property of the respective institutions which shall maintain and manage them.
The Department of Museums and Monuments provides advisory services to the bodies responsible for the preservation and maintenance of traditional, clan or family burial grounds.
