The City Square is listed among the gazetted national cultural sites and monuments of Uganda, alongside the Independence Monument, the Source of the Nile and the Equator monuments.

Under the Museums and Monuments Act, 2023, the Department of Museums and Monuments shall protect and preserve public monuments and memorials.
