INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT

The Independence Monument is listed among the gazetted national cultural sites and monuments of Uganda, alongside the City Square, the Source of the Nile and the Equator monuments.

Under the Museums and Monuments Act, 2023, the Department of Museums and Monuments shall protect and preserve public monuments and memorials. The Department shall protect and maintain sites or monuments owned by Government.

The Commissioner may cause the inspection or repair of a monument and may issue compulsory repair orders where a monument has been neglected into disrepair.
